The Trans World Airlines (TWA) Scholarship funds undergraduate and graduate students of any major who perform or plan to perform research addressing environmental issues. Scholarships are awarded annually to students based on their academic accomplishments and research interests.

Scholarship Amount

The TWA scholarship fund awards a minimum of seven scholarships each year:

  • Two (2) or more go to law students chosen by their law school.
  • Five (5) or more go to students selected by a systemwide committee.

Each scholarship is worth at least $7,000 total, paid in two equal payments: one at the start of each semester of the following academic year. If a student graduates after the first semester, they will not receive the second payment.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

To qualify for the TWA Scholarship, you must be:

  • Currently enrolled at an institution within the University of Missouri System.
    • Undergraduate students must have completed at least 60 credit hours of college coursework (hours don’t necessarily have to be from a UM System university).
    • Graduate students have no minimum number of credit hours required.
  • A full-time student and Missouri resident for tuition purposes.
    • Refer to your university’s registrar office to confirm your classification status.
    • Students with out-of-state tuition waivers do not qualify.
    • Students must remain full-time to maintain eligibility.

Selection is based on GPA, research experience and other relevant achievements, with preference given to students planning a career in natural resources or environmental law, or studying environmental engineering or environmental science.
