The Tuition Settlement Scholarship (TSS) reduces tuition and mandatory fees for eligible undergraduate, graduate, professional or online students related to a 2005 case settlement. Scholarships will be awarded for 25 years following the settlement.

Scholarship Amount

The Tuition Settlement scholarship fund awards as many scholarships as the fund allows. Each scholarship is worth at least $500, with a maximum award of $1,500 per academic year and $750 for summer. Award cannot exceed the recipient’s tuition and educational fees and does not roll over to semesters following.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

To qualify for the Tuition Settlement Scholarship, you must be:

  • A member of the original class defined in the settlement, or a spouse or child of an original class member.
    • Original class members must provide details to verify they attended a UM System institution at any point between Winter 1995 and Fall 2001 as a Missouri resident undergraduate, age 16-22 (e.g., name, student ID number or time attended). See the settlement agreement for additional details.
    • Spouses must provide a copy of marriage certificate and notarized attestation of marriage (PDF).
    • Children must provide proof of relationship to original class member via birth or adoption certificate.
  • Enrolled in at least one credit-earning class (undergraduate, graduate, professional or online) at an institution within the University of Missouri System.

Selection is based on the number of applicants. Original class members are given priority, followed by spouses and children. If more class members apply than the number of scholarships available, winners are chosen randomly. If fewer class members apply than scholarships available, all class members get awards. Any leftover scholarships go to eligible spouses and children, chosen randomly if needed.

Previous recipients may apply again by repeating the application process. The scholarship does not automatically renew. Award appeals must be filed with your local campus contact within 90 days of the supporting documentation deadline for the relevant semester.
